New York Times:

The coming-of-age drama “Moonlight” is nominated for eight Academy Awards. It tells the story of a gay African-American boy growing up in the impoverished Liberty City neighborhood of Miami.

Here’s what else you need to know about the movie as it continues through awards season.

• Here’s The New York Times review, in which A. O. Scott asked if it was the best film of the year. (His answer was yes.)

• Here’s an interview with the film’s director, Barry Jenkins, and the playwright Tarell Alvin McCraney, whose work was adapted into the film. Both men are from Liberty City.
