Rental Relief Resources and Information

Rent Relief Social 1

On Jan 29th the State of California passed the COVID-19 Tenant Relief Act into law. The law provides a starting fund of $1.5 billion toward rental assistance to cover back rent for low-income households from April 1st, 2020 through March 31st, 2021. Since then $3 billion more has been approved at state and federal levels. We want to make sure individual artists and cultural workers are aware of these resources. Many could easily lose out if they are not already connected to local housing agencies.  Vital Arts is part of a coalition headed by the Northern California Community Land Trust (NCLT) contracted by the State of California to ensure that households earning below 50% and 80% of average median income are aware of and able to access this assistance. NCLT is focused on coordinating support for applications from qualifying residents and property owners in the counties of Alameda, Contra Costa, Solano and San Francisco. Details and applications are now open online for landlords and their tenants at HousingIsKey.com.

Those needing application assistance can also call the State’s hotline for an appointment at 833-430-2122. NCLT staff are ready to help artists prepare applications, especially those in nontraditional live/work housing and/or joint tenancies. Residents of SF can also apply for rent from April – June 2021 at https://sf.gov/renthelp
