We are excited to announce our Inaugural Ruth Williams Music Artist in Residence, Mr. Christoper Street, and his StreetSounds Productions company. As our Music Artist in Residence, Mr. Street and StreetSounds Productions have been awarded $40,000 as well as complimentary studio/rehearsal space at the Ruth Williams Memorial Theater to create music-centered community programming as well as produce performances showcasing mastery of their musical talents.
Christopher Street serves as an Elementary & Secondary School Paraprofessional/Behavioral Specialist and Instructional Aide within the San Francisco Unified School District and has worked with varied Bay Area neighborhood youth programs for over two decades. He is currently entering his twelfth year as a teaching artist and residence composer with the San Francisco Opera.
Originally from Southampton, Long Island in New York, Street has performed with large and small gospel concert choirs, and bands across the U.S. since the age of 16. He holds a Bachelors in Arts Degree in Music Performance and Theory.
In his work, Street aims to facilitate students’ motivation in accessing their inner strengths and abilities through project-based activities that truly inspire them. Street specializes in providing a socially emotional trauma informed, culturally, stimulating, hands-on learning environment that fosters confidence and encourages scholars, to reach their fullest potential.
